An aged female patient presented in the clinic for the right knee joint pain with a disease duration of 3 years. Her right knee joint was swelling, distending, and painful. The flexion and extension movements were limited. She was unable to squad and had difficulty in walking. There was apparent tenderness at ST 34 (Liangqiu), LR 8 (Ququan), and SP 10 (Xuehai).

Treatment

The patient was instructed to be seated and flex her right knee joint. ST 34 (Liangqiu), LR 8 (Ququan), and SP 10 (Xuehai) were selected. After disinfecting the local area, the practitioner burned the filiform fire needle to white and bright, pricked the point swiftly to a depth of about 1 Cun, and massaged the surrounding area to relieve pain from the needle insertion. The needle was withdrawn a few seconds after the insertion.

After the treatment, the knee joint pain was significantly relieved and her walking was apparently improved.
